Fire brings people together, gives hope, and serves as a lifegiving and lifesaving tool in the wilderness. Learn the art of fire making by exploring basic (and creative!) tools and techniques to build, start, and maintain a fire. The class will culminate in a firendly fire building competition and everyone will create a firestarting kit of their own.

During this session, we may also explore nature poetry and nature journaling as a way to deepen our connection—capturing what we observe, feel, and experience through words, sketches, or reflections. Please bring a journal and art supplies if desired.

This hour long intro to Wilderness First Aid will be focused on helping you with critical decision making when help is more than an hour away. Participants will get an overview of how to prepare for emergencies before they happen, learn how to do a basic patient assessment, how to treat the most common trail injuries such as sprains/strains/breaks, environmental hazards (heat/cold/plants/animals), and how to make the key decision to stay or to evacuate.
